I met with Alex of Creative Concepts a graphic design and apparel shop that I’ve used for years for my fundraising and community organizations. We talked about what makes her shop great and unique, and the challenges she faces running her business.
One unique thing they offer is the capability to do “Just 1 Shirt” as their tagline implies. They can often get these done in very short order, and they’re great for last minute surprise gifts.
It’s difficult running the business in a market that you have to compete with online vendors. She strives to have competitive prices, but that means she needs to pick up more work in order to keep her doors open and it becomes increasingly difficult to compete with a mail order source that gets business from all over the country.

For me personally, it’s about supporting our local businesses. I could probably get my shirts in bulk online and save a few bucks, but supporting local, and the quality of service I get knowing if anything is wrong they will take care of it immediately gives me a peace of mind that I can never achieve with an online vendor.
