The last day for early voting is tomorrow. Election day is 7:30-7:30 on Tuesday. That means a lot of people are going to be looking up candidates so my final post before the election is one to let you know where I stand. I’ve spent a lot of time talking to the folks of Ward 1 and our department/organization directors so I could learn about what’s important for our community.

I’ve met with The Hub, The Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity among others to learn how we address homelessness. The number one cause of homelessness is unaffordable housing, so we need to put in place incentives for our developers to build affordable housing, and we need to attract better paying jobs.

I met with the Chamber of Commerce, The Center for Economic Development and a dozen or more local businesses to talk about the challenges of bringing those better paying jobs to Jonesboro. We need to streamline and make more transparent the process to open a new business and improve quality of life and public safety.

I met with the chief of police, our E-911 director, and even did a ride-along to learn about the challenges of public safety. I’ve advocated for better wages for our emergency services staff, and some of that has already come to fruition!

I met with parks and rec, public transit, our municipal airport, and various other departments. I learned about the challenges facing Jonesboro, and gathered and shared ideas on how we overcome them.

Lastly I met with the people of Ward 1. I walked over 50 miles while I knocked on countless doors meeting the people of Jonesboro and learning what’s important to you. The recurring themes have always been public safety, revitalization, and inclusivity. If elected I promise I will do everything I can to address these issues and more.
